Harcum College announced today that its first class of Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists (Neuro Techs) will graduate this May. In 2007, Harcum began offering the only accredited electroneurodiagnostic technology degree program in the state of PA and one of only 20 accredited degree programs nationwide.
“The field of Electroneurodiagnostic Technology continues to grow every year,” states Maureen Bendyna, Director of Neurodiagnostic Technology, Harcum College. “The national demand for Neuro Techs continues to increase despite the economy.”
Electroneurodiagnostics is the study of the brain and nervous system. Neuro Techs record electrical activity arising from the brain, spinal cord, peripheral nerves, somatosensory or motor nerve systems using a variety of techniques and instruments and prepare data and documentation for interpretation by a physician. Procedures performed by technologists include electroencephalography [EEG]; evoked potentials [EP]; intraoperative neuromonitoring [IONM]; nerve conduction studies [NCS]; and polysomnography or sleep studies [PSG]. These tests aid in the diagnosis of illnesses and problems such as epilepsy, sleep apnea, migraine headaches, strokes, and carpal tunnel syndrome.
